RN Consultant

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Registered Nurse to join our Registration department. This position supports the registration services team by assessing documentation provided by applicants/members to determine eligibility requirements for registration and/or practice permit in Alberta. This is a part time term position beginning October 1, 2019 through to March 31, 2020.

Your primary responsibilities

  • Interpret and apply legislation; communicate requirements, mandate, purpose and goals of registration to applicants, members, and stakeholders
  • Approve, defer, or refuse applications for registration and practice permits, including provisional permits, GNP permits, initial RN and NP permits, permits for RNs and NPs returning to practice, courtesy permits, authorizations, and renewal of any of the listed permits
  • Investigate reports of unauthorized practice or unauthorized use of title
  • Participate in or lead projects as assigned
  • Provide consultation on registration requirements and process to staff, applicants, members, public, and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate with Registration Assistants, including review and improvement of procedures, workflow and outcomes, as well as support new Registration staff orientation as required
  • Provide cover off support in the absence of other RN Consultants


You possess

  • Four year undergraduate degree plus professional certification and/or designation
  • Current CARNA member in good standing, or eligible for registration
  • 7 - 9 years’ experience in a combination of administrative, education or research roles with recent clinical nursing experience
  • Excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to balance attention to detail and ability to see the big picture
  • Excellent team player with negotiation and organizational skills with the ability to orchestrate change through influence
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, internet presentation and databases
  • Highly-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with multiple stakeholders
  • Aptitude for exceptional customer service
