Safe Harbour Society has opportunities within our Medically Supported Detox for Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse to work a Casual role.
Safe Harbour Society is a non-profit organization that strives to meet the needs of persons with addictions. We currently operate a 20 bed medically supported detox offering an elevated level of care and the outcomes for persons with addictions seeking help. This is a perfect opportunity for an enthusiastic nurse to contribute to the ongoing development and growth of our unit.
We are looking for RN/RPN’s that believe in the established vision and core values of Safe Harbour and are driven by our mission of providing spaces of welcome and connection.
Reporting to the Detox Manager or designate the RN/RPN provides care to guests with substance abuse/co-occurring disorders through all stages of a 7 - 10 day detox. This is a Casual position - 12 hour shifts covering both days and nights.
- RN/RPN diploma
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing or Masters of Nursing
- Minimum of 4 years nursing practice and 2 years’ experience in the field of addictions or mental health
- Solid working knowledge of the health system and community agencies in the City of Red Deer and Central Alberta
- Basic Life Saving Level C
- Active Registration and in good standing with licensing body
- Current Criminal Record Check
The RN/RPN’s will provide direct nursing care and supportive counselling to clients in community based beds who are in the process of detoxification, stabilization and transitions into other community based services. Collaborating with interdisciplinary team members, educational resources and other health and care professionals such as housing, justice and health, the RN/RPN’s will maintain a safe environment for clients and staff.
The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge of addiction medication and protocols used for detoxification of alcohol, crystal meth, opioids and benzodiazepines. They will project a positive attitude towards substance dependent clients and their rehabilitation and possess a broad knowledge of substance use. As well display broad knowledge of behavior management and an ability to use non-violent crisis intervention strategies in a trauma informed manner.
Abilities will include but are not limited to analytical problem solving skills, case management, teaching/training, clinical support and consultation skills with the ability to communicate effectively both oral and written. RN/RPN’s will work effectively within an interdisciplinary environment with the ability to prioritize, work independently and use a cooperative approach to program delivery.
