Exciting opportunity for a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN)/Registered Nurse (RN) in Correctional Health. The opportunity is a full time permanent nursing position. Reporting to the AHS Site Manager, the Correctional Nurse provides comprehensive health services to the adult in custody. Duties include medication administration, ongoing monitoring of patient response to intervention and evaluating progress. Develops, promotes and maintains collaborative linkages within the Correctional Institution, the Mental Health system and community agencies, professionals and para-professionals. Educates staff, clients, agencies and the community as appropriate, regarding the functions of the unit. Assists in providing in-service education to Correctional staff.
In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is paid on an hourly basis for all hours worked at the basic rate of pay
As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will provide leadership through a wide variety of nursing services to patients (clients, residents) for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, mental health and preventing mental illness, injury and disability. You will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and take necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care, while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
- Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program.
- Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA) or the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA).
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
- Experience in Correctional Nursing, Mental Health or addictions preferred.
- A mature attitude, solid assessment and critical thinking skills are an asset.
